A Writing Feedback Workshop with Whole Class

by Cengiz Turan |

Rather than leading a class where you as the teacher talk to the students one-to-one correcting their mistakes and giving feedback, this lesson plan gives you an alternative idea where you can give feedback to the whole class and discuss collectively.

Resource Type: Lesson Plan

Audience: University, Adult

Audience Language Proficiency: Beginner, Intermediate

Duration: 60 minutes

Objective:

Writing skills are central concerning students' paragraphs. However, critical thinking, analyzing, and turn-taking are some of the enabling skills that students will be practising.

Teaching Tip:

1) I applied these lesson plans in my online class last year. For an online class, one needs to work harder to maintain all students' attention, so keep them busy with tasks.

2) A warm and friendly classroom atmosphere is the prerequisite to workshop learning on the students' side. So it must be made sure that the teacher does not ignore this.

3) Some students might not agree to have their paragraphs revealed in the classroom. If so, it must be learned beforehand and necessary changes must be brought to the work of the student. For instance, the owner of the paragraph is simply not mentioned.

4) Try to have students talk about their own or friends' work. Try to reveal if they fully understand the improvements with direct and indirect questions.

Language Skill: Speaking, Writing
Content Area: English for academic purposes
