Self-Study: Fundamentals of TESOL

Gain a theoretical and practical knowledge of language, language learning, teaching methodology, and classroom practice. 

The course has six modules, covering the following topics:

Theoretical Base: An Introduction to the Knowledge Base of TESOL

  1. Introduction to Language
  2. Introduction to Language Learning
  3. Introduction to Language Teaching

Practical Application: An Introduction to the Practice of TESOL

  1. Understanding the English Language
  2. Facilitating Language Learning
  3. Preparing Lessons

Note: Self-study courses do not count toward the TESOL Core Certificate Program (TCCP).

Register and begin at any time! Self-study courses offer you the flexibility to learn at your own pace, when and where it fits your life.

Participants have three months from the time of enrollment to complete the course.

Fundamentals of TESOL is designed for current or prospective teachers and administrators who have little to no formal training in English language teaching.

This self-study course allows you to learn fundamental theories and teaching strategies at your own pace.

TESOL online courses are asynchronous, which means that you can log in at any time. You should plan to spend approximately 10 hours in each module for a total of 60 hours.

Each module includes a variety of learning materials, including PowerPoint guides, video clips describing the objectives and goals for each module, readings, and quizzes. You must score 80% or higher on each module quiz before moving on to the next module.

When you finish the course, you will receive a certificate of completion listing the hours of professional development you spent on the course.

All course materials are available on TESOL’s online course platform. Cost for the materials is included in the registration fee.
