TESOL International Association Applauds the Joint Statement of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education in Support of International Education

by Rosa Aronson |

On 26 July 2021, the U.S. federal government released an important statement in support of international education.

This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education sets forth guiding principles to promote collaboration and partnerships in international education activities and to expand access to opportunities through technology and new programs. The statement reaffirms that international students, educators, and scholars all contribute  immeasurably to the strength of American society as well as global diplomacy.

TESOL celebrates this renewed commitment to a sector of society that has been neglected and significantly weakened far too long. It is time to repair and renew the global connections that have been lost in recent years, and to find global solutions to the many challenges confronting our world. TESOL’s members--teachers, administrators, and researchers located in more than 160 countries around the world--stand ready to support this effort.
