Explore Emerging Trends and Practical Applications

TESOL Research Directions

Led by the TESOL Research Professional Council with input from a wide range of English language teaching professionals, TESOL has developed the 2023-2027 research directions. We encourage you to explore these directions and see how they can guide your research. In addition to the directions, you'll find many other resources to support your research efforts.

Research Stories Collection

These stories focus on the experience of conducting research rather than the research itself. We hope these stories inspire others to engage in research and share their stories with us in the future. In this first collection of TESOL Research Stories, we share narratives from past TESOL mini-grant winners.

Research Councils, Forums and Awards

The Research Professional Council monitors, evaluates, and encourages development of research-related activities to advance TESOL's Strategic Plan

The TESOL Award for Distinguished Research recognizes excellence in any area of research on language teaching and learning. It is open to any author who has completed an empirical research project and a subsequent scholarly paper that was published in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal during the award year.

TESOL offers a forum for graduate students in master’s and doctoral programs. The forum is offered the day before the annual TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo. Students share their research results and teaching experiences, and they can network with other graduate students and faculty from other universities.
