Call for English Language Coach: Uzbekistan (Immediate Opening January 2022)

TESOL International Association seeks a qualified applicant to support teacher professional development and English language enhancement as part of the English Speaking Nation Secondary Teacher Training Program in Uzbekistan. The selected candidate will work with a team of coaches and local core trainers to support a national cascading professional learning program designed to reach approximately 15,000 secondary public school EFL teachers. Coaches will collaborate with local core trainers to observe and facilitate teacher practicums for the TESOL Core Certificate Program, supervise and document practicum assignments, and support teacher professional learning action plans for cascading training workshops on The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners® and the George Mason University Teaching English Through English Course. Each coach will be assigned to a remote region of Uzbekistan and will be expected to travel frequently within their assigned region to conduct observations at local schools.

The successful applicant will have a background in facilitating professional development with English teachers of diverse language proficiency levels in the region, and in low-resource settings, as well as demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to dynamic and unpredictable work environments. TESOL coaches will work closely with the TESOL ESN program director and the local ESN program team in order to ensure that the content is delivered in accordance with the project following requirements outlined by TESOL International Association, American Councils for International Education, the U.S. Embassy, Tashkent and the Ministry of Public Education. 

It is expected that the incumbent will travel to Uzbekistan approximately January 17, 2022 and will spend approximately 6 months there.  Preference will be given to applicants with regional experience, immediate availability, and desired language skills.

Minimum qualifications  

  • MA in TESOL or related field
  • 3 years EFL classroom teaching experience
  • Teacher development experience for an audience at the A2-B1 CEFR level
  • Experience in low bandwidth, low resource contexts
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to dynamic and unpredictable work environments
  • Strong intercultural communication skills
  • U.S. citizen w/ a valid passport

Desired qualifications  

  • Conversational Russian and/or Uzbek language skills
  • Experience traveling and working in Central Asia
  • Experience teaching short-term TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate programs

Compensation: includes a monthly stipend, room/board, round-trip airfare, and travel health insurance.  

Length of time: up to 6 months in one or more region of Uzbekistan.
